IITGN celebrated Independence Day 2022 today with great patriotic fervour. The Institute community hosted a number of interesting events to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence.

Following the flag hoisting ceremony, Prof Amit Prashant, Officiating Director, IITGN, addressed the Institute community and congratulated all for completing 75 years of India’s independence. Encouraging the students, faculty, alumni, and staff to think of new ways to lead and find solutions for tomorrow for the World, Professor Prashant said, “We have collectively built this institution with a long-term vision and achieved many milestones. Now we have to move towards the next level of aspirations and growth. As an educational institution, we have a larger role to play in meeting the growing expectations and needs of the country. To participate meaningfully in this process, we have to imagine our own destiny, we have to imagine our own path to reach there; and for that, we need to be much more strategic in our roles and also be accepting if there are any hurdles on the way. Learning from the past is a beautiful thing we should do, but at the same time, we should also imagine what we want to do as a world leader. So I would request all of us to think afresh about our strategy for tomorrow. If we walk with our imagination and our strategy, we will be able to do better and better to lead and help everyone.”

On this occasion, the Institute also felicitated 20 employees (including 9 faculty and 11 staff members) with Long Service Awards to honour their dedicated service to the Institute for ten years. This event was followed by distribution of Dean’s List Awards to students for achieving a certain level of academic excellence in the last academic term.

The Physical Education section, along with the Sports Council of IITGN, is going to conduct Beat the former Dean in 100 metre Swimming Challenge and Beat the Warden in 5 km Run Challenge for the IITGN community in the evening. Both of these fitness-promoting events have garnered a large amount of interest for participation from the entire IITGN community, including the current Dean of Student Affairs and Head of Sports.

The Literary Society of the Institute has planned a Poetry Recitation Competition, and the Quizzing Society of IITGN is going to organise an India Quiz Competition in the afternoon for the Institute community.

Besides these, the Cultural Council of IITGN will also be hosting a Cultural Event in the evening, wherein students, the IITGN community, and their family members will showcase their talent in the form of patriotic songs, drama, solo and group dance, and so on.
