Future educators from Gujarat trained in imparting key non-cognitive skills in students

After receiving an enthusiastic response from about 80 heads of engineering colleges across Gujarat, the Finding the Leader in You (FLY) initiative conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme at the institute during January 19-20. Hands-on training in content and methodology of the FLY programme was imparted to about 20 future facilitators (master trainers). They were trained to impart non-cognitive skills to engineering college students across Gujarat and to high school students in Jaipur. First-of-its-kind D-Dine Day celebrated, mess staff gets treat

Our dining facilities provide a hygienic, healthy and timely meal which is possible only because of the hard work of workers and managers in the mess. Therefore, we decided to celebrate the ‘D-Dine Day’. It was a great opportunity for us to show our gratitude towards the mess workers who serve us so faithfully throughout the year. Rahul Bharti Student Welfare Secretary Food is always an important concern for parents when children move out of their homes for study and/or jobs. Students, on the other hand, are always very eager to try out a variety of cuisines and dishes. In hostels, we often find the students complaniing about poor mess food but not at IITGN. Our students, staff and faculty members are all praises for the great food at mess and as a mark of reverence and gratitutde towards the mess staff, organised a first-of-its-kind ‘D-Dine Day’. On the evening of January 18, the students, staff and faculty members took to cooking and serving a meal for the mess staff, as a gesture of gratitude and respect for their hard work throughout the year. CCL receives first prize at Vibrant Gujarat STEM Conference

Centre for Creative Learning (CCL)’s paper on hands-on, experiential education was awarded the first prize at the recently-concluded Vibrant Gujarat STEM Conference. Union HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar presented the prize and citation to CCL, IITGN team on January 17. The paper titled Making and Maker-Spaces: The Secret Sauce of Future-Proof Learning was co-authored by Prof Manish Jain, Prof Neeldhara Misra, Gaurav Kumar, Neeraj Kumar and Pankaj Godara. Prof R N Iyengar enlightens on “Narada Shilpa Shastra”

The institute organised a special discussion on Narada Shilpa Shastra, an important text of Vastushastra, civil engineering, and architecture, on January 16. This 1,500-year-old treatise was recently edited and translated by Prof R N Iyengar, who visited IITGN for lectures in its annual Indian Knowledge Systems course. His new work, Narada Shilpa Shastra, published by Jain University Press, is a treatise extensively dealing with town-planning, construction of roads, dams, lakes, private and public buildings, including marriage halls, art galleries, theatres and temples. The discussion at IITGN had faculty members and students exchanging with Prof Iyengar on the modern relevance, implications and possible applications of this ancient treatise to current challenges in town-planning, construction, water management and other aspects of civil engineering. Prof Iyengar also delivered lectures on Civil Engineering in Ancient India as part of the third edition of the Indian Knowledge Systems semester course, being conducted on the theme of Technologies in Ancient India. Professor Iyengar's Profile Prof Iyengar had a distinguished academic career as a civil engineering expert. He has been the director of CBRI-CSIR, a professor at Indian Institute of Science in the past, and is currently Distinguished Professor and the Director of the Centre for Ancient History and Culture at Jain University, Bengaluru.
