NEEV, the community outreach program of IIT Gandhinagar, in partnership with Desai Foundation Trust, successfully conducted six skill development courses during April to June 2024, for youth and women hailing from rural areas in Gandhinagar. 228 participants were trained through these courses.
26 participants in Stitching course, 36 participants in Beautician course, 91 participants in two batches of basic Computer course, 43 participants in Spoken-English course, 32 participants in Nail Art Design course, received certificates at the closing session held on June 13, 2024
NEEV Coordinator, Soumya Harish said, “IIT Gandhinagar, while being a premier institute that caters to the best minds from all across the country, also believes in extending its resources for the benefit of surrounding grassroots communities through such projects conducted by NEEV. Through these courses, women and youth from underserved communities gain the necessary skills to further their livelihood, education, and career.”
Mrs. Rajni Moona, Head IT in IITBNF, IIT Bombay, and Dr. Sivapriya Kirubakaran, Dean of Student Affairs and Associate Professor, Chemistry, were the chief guests at the event. Both Mrs. Moona and Dr. Kirubakaran congratulated the participants and emphasized the importance of applying the skills learnt from the course for the betterment of their education and career.
About Neev: Since 2014, NEEV has conducted over 150 projects and activities for 5200+ beneficiaries from the Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad areas, including 30+ nearby villages. NEEV conducts several skills courses such as Sewing, Beautician, Basic Computer, Data-Entry & Typing, Computer Hardware, Tally Skills, Website Designing, Social Media Graphic Designing, Chocolate and Candle making, Nail Art Design, Spoken-English, Entrepreneurship Development, and so on. NEEV also conducts awareness seminars in topics such as Menstrual Health Management, Career Development Skills, and Banking and Savings. Women and youth from villages such as Palaj, Basan, Chiloda, Dabhoda, Prantiya, Magodi, Ratanpur, Kolavada, Alampur, Dholakuva, Lekawada, Pethapur, Chala, Lavarpur, Nava Dharampur, Borij, Mota Isanpur, Rampura, Chandrala, Dholarana Vasna, Dhanap, Shahpur, Vadodaragam, Vavol, Bhundiya, and nearby peri-urban areas in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad cities, have participated in these projects.
