The institute has always aimed at being an ‘inclusive’ rather than ‘exclusive’ academic institution. This is achieved through its various initiatives and programmes. The non-degree programme being run by the institute is one such unique initiative where non-IIT students from any institute in India or abroad and industry professionals from various disciplines can take full-time or part-time courses and spend an entire semester at IITGN.
Students registered for a degree in a recognised institute in India or abroad, have completed at least one year of college education, and are sponsored by that institute to complete part of his/her academic requirements at IITGN, can apply for admission as full-time non-degree students. Students who already have an undergraduate or master’s degree, engineers or scientists of other institutes, industries or research-labs can apply as part-time non-degree students while pursuing other endeavors at their parent organisation.
The non-degree students can participate in cutting-edge research, undertake projects with IITGN faculty and utilise academic facilities of the institute just like regular students at IITGN. After the completion of their term, non-degree students are also given a certificate.
Admissions are open for full-time and part-time non-degree programmes for both Semester-I (August-November) and Semester-II (January-April) of this academic year. Online applications can be submitted through IITGN webpage https://www.iitgn.ac.in/non-degree.htm.
The objective is to provide students who aspire to be at an IIT a chance to get exposure to the IIT system and learn with our students and from our faculty. They also get numerous opportunities to meet and interact with eminent scientists, professors in their areas of interest and other scholars who visit IITGN. In the process, the intellectual horizons of the students are broadened, they earn solid credentials and may even be able to transfer the credits to their parent institution.
