Ayatri Singha, a student of MSc Physics at the institute, has been awarded the prestigious Ronald Drever Scholarship. Ayatri will pursue doctoral studies in gravitational waves at the University of Glasgow (UOG). The scholarship was funded through a £500-thousand bequest from Prof Ronald Drever’s family to the UOG’s School of Physics and Astronomy. Professor Drever’s seminal work in Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) locking enabled the discovery of the first gravitational wave signal in advanced-Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors.
I am feeling excited about joining the UOG in October. I am going to work on instrumentation for gravitational wave detection and advanced detector configurations there, which may impact the next-generation detectors including the upcoming LIGO India detector.
