The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) hosted a delegation led by Mr SASAKI Jun, Vice Governor of Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and President of the Iwate Industry Promotion Center, on September 5, 2025. The delegation included officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Iwate Industry Promotion Center. Team of Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM) also joined the visit. The visit focused on fostering collaboration in semiconductor skilling, research, and development, marking a significant step toward strengthening technological and industrial ties between Iwate Prefecture and Gujarat, and between Japan and India.

Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, welcomed a visiting delegation, underlining the institute’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and innovation. “IITGN is at the forefront of cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and integrated circuit design and technology, supported by our award-winning curriculum, advanced laboratories, Research Park, and Incubation Center,” he said.
Highlighting Gujarat’s pivotal role in India’s semiconductor journey, he added, “The state has been home to landmark projects like TATA Electronics’ AI-enabled 300mm fabrication facility in Dholera, Micron Technology’s ATMP unit in Sanand, and CG Power’s OSAT facility in collaboration with Renesas Electronics and STAR Microelectronics.”
The director expressed optimism about potential collaborations with Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, highlighting IITGN’s strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Micron, TATA Electronics, L&T Semiconductor, and Infineon, along with academic ties with leading Japanese institutions.åan Resources Development Facility), which trains students and professionals on advanced semiconductor equipment. He said discussions focused on joint efforts in semiconductor training, research, and development, combining Iwate’s expertise in electronics and semiconductors with Gujarat’s growing semiconductor industry, supported by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
The visit paves the way for future collaborations, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and training programs aimed at strengthening the semiconductor industry. IITGN looks forward to working closely with Iwate Prefecture to foster innovation and support industry growth.
