The institute is developing a number of land pockets as fruit orchards. The species of fruits are chosen to be ones that are not large trees. Plantation of fruit plants for the past couple of seasons have had limited success due to destruction by cattle and Neelgais. For this season though, we expect better results.
This season, we have thus far planted 66 Chickoo plants, 284 Pomegranate (Dadam) plants, 445 Guava (Jamphal) plants, 346 Custard Apple (Sitaphal) plants, 350 Mosambi plants, 100 Apple Ber plants and 100 Lemon (Nimbu plants). We are also in the process of planting 500 Falsa plants, which makes the total tally over 2,000.
