Life teaches you the most. With this understanding, IITGN instituted the Explorer’s Fellowship. An annual summer programme, the fellowship is a window for students to experience “life”. The selected students, in small groups, undertake a six-week adventure journey across the country.
The fellows are required to travel across at least six states, which must include at least one each in the northern, north-eastern and southern parts of the country. The travels have to be planned frugally. The decisions are entirely made by the students whether they would travel by sleeper-class railways or by state-government buses, or if they will stay at low-cost accommodation such as youth hostels, homestays or dharamsalas.
The programme empowers students to set off on a “journey of discovery”, where they encounter diverse cultures and lifestyles. Presently in its third edition, the fellowship has been availed by 25 teams comprising 66 students over the past two years. The journeys have not only given students real-life experiences but have created some very special memories. These students have travelled across the country and witnessed ground difficulties and problems of day-to-day life in different states.
