The IITGN community celebrated the international Earth Day today. Green Office at the institute organised a number of activities to mark the day and spread the message – Save the Earth, Save the Environment – collectively.
The celebrations included eco talks on topics such as Go Waste Negative, Tree Walks, Issues of Urban Environment and Use of Eco-Friendly Alternatives by various organisations working towards environment conservation. A short film on green practices at IITGN was also released on the occasion.
The event had a Nature Bazaar, an exhibition of various organic food products, vegetables, khadi clothing, environment-friendly alternatives, compost and books, among others. A group of rural women trained in stitching by NEEV, a community outreach initiative of IITGN had also put up a stall of cloth bags sewn by them, which served the dual purpose of saving the environment from plastic bags and empowering rural women through livelihood generation.
Through a string of events, the whole IITGN community was apprised of several ways through which environment can be conserved. The students, staff, faculty and family members participated in the activities with great fervour and enthusiasm.
The institute celebrates the Earth Day every year to sensitise its community towards the challenges our environment faces. Through various activities, IITGN also strives to apprise people of what can be done to overcome the challenges, both individually and collectively. IITGN is one of the greenest campuses in India with a great emphasis on waste management, water harvesting and recycling, biogas and solar energy generation.
