A two-day conference on Deep Foundation Technologies for Infrastructure Development in India (DFI-India 2018) was inaugurated today by Dr I P Gautam, IAS (Retd) and Managing Director – MEGA Company Ltd, Ahmedabad at the institute. Speaking at the conference, Dr Gautam expressed hope that conference like this on deliberations and knowledge sharing on Deep Foundation will help in resolving the issues in the sector.
Delivering the presidential address, Prof Sudhir K Jain, director, IITGN emphasised the importance of deep foundations, not only for safety but also for the economy.
Dr Narayan V Nayak, Principal Advisor, Gammon India Ltd was given the DFI India Lifetime Contribution Award 2018 for his contribution in infrastructure development. The inaugural event was followed by technical sessions and guest presentations by industry experts. Ms Anjana Kadakia, Mumbai Office Director of Thornton Tomasetti, presented a lecture on Women in Engineering in India. She shared her journey and experiences of becoming an engineer being a woman in a field which was largely male-dominated and talked about her infrastructural projects.
Constructing underground Metro route in cities is challenging but knowledge-sharing by educational institutes like IITs is very helpful in implementing complex projects.
