Disha Cup, the annual cricket tournament of IITGN for the institute’s outsourced manpower, kick-started today. In its fifth edition, the opening ceremony was held in presence of Prof D P Roy, senior visiting faculty at IITGN. Taking inspiration from the Fit India Movement, the institute shared its Fitness Regime Programme through Disha Cup. The opening ceremony was marked with a march past, Fit India Movement exercises and pledge.
Scheduled from November 26 to December 01, the tournament is planned in a way that it doesn’t disturb the support staff’s routine in office. A total of 160 staff members, including security guards, maintenance staff, mess workers, office boys, housekeeping staff, drivers, horticulture staff, groundsmen, Canara Bank staff, hostel facility staff, shop employees and laundry staff, are participating this year. All the players have been divided into 10 different teams.
Continuing the green endeavours of the institute, the tournament organisers used an eco-friendly banner for the event. They have also decided to give away Oxygen plants in prize.
Disha Cup is an initiative of Physical Education Section of IITGN which is organised every year to encourage sportsmanship, inculcate team spirit and healthy competition among the participants, in order to shape their personality and hidden talents. The institute has been conducting this event for the past four years.
