A five-day residential Vigyan Jyoti workshop for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) school children concluded today.
Twenty-five (25) students of Standard VI-VIII from about 15 AMC-run schools had a different experience as they soaked-in the hands-on learning of Science and Math at the workshop conducted by Centre for Creative Learning (CCL). This was the third batch of Department of Science and Technology (DST)-funded Vigyan Jyoti pilot workshop which aims at motivating children to develop an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects.
During the workshop, the students learnt laser-cutting, designed their own structures and table lamps, made their own finger rings with a 3D printer, made their own robots, motors and generators, developed structures with sticks, and did many other activities which makes STEM inspiring and engaging. The students were also joined by a few teachers.
Throughout the days, the children were engrossed in activities while evenings were for games. Yet, they said they never felt bored. The students also praised the discipline and cleanliness in the IITGN campus. The fact that there are no chairs for teachers in the classrooms fascinated them.
We did a lot of creative activities during these five days. The instructors showed us various experiments and models of Science and Math, and we tried our hands at designing our finger ring on the computer. We made frogs and wave car, and understood the Math behind the design. It was so much fun!
