Various stakeholders, partners, alumni, past employees, students, faculty and staff of the institute gathered on August 10 at its campus to share their experiences with each other. Several interactions were planned for them over a period of two days till August 11. Contributors and partners of the past 10 years were felicitated with special plaques.
To mark and reflect on its journey thus far, and to carve out a path for the next 25 years, the institute also plans to organised multiple workshops, seminars and conclaves over the next year.
The institute has initiated several innovations in academic curricula and governance over the past decade. Lauded nationally and internationally for such innovations, the institute is also recognised as a leader in the area. Its undergraduate programme, with an emphasis on critical thinking, project-oriented learning and liberal education received the 2013 World Education Award from the World Education Summit for innovation in higher education and the 2014 World Education Award for internationalisation. IITGN’s 400-acre campus on the banks of the Sabarmati has been recognised as India’s greenest campus, with a five-star rating by Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment for Large Developments (GRIHA) LD, as well as two national design awards by Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
Internationalisation is one of the central pillars of the institute’s academic experience. It is woven throughout the curriculum in coursework, study-abroad opportunities, visiting students and faculty, research collaborations, etc. IITGN has developed strategic partnerships with more than 40 universities, industries, and R&D organisations around the world for student and faculty exchanges, as well as research collaborations. The institute places great emphasis on the interdisciplinary approach, which is imbued throughout the curriculum and programmes. It has also established several interdisciplinary centers of excellence on Archaeological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Design & Innovation, Safety, Cognitive Science and Sustainable Development.
