A Solar Carport with partially covered walkaway is being developed in the area between the Hostels and Academic Area(in front of Lal Minar) at IIT Gandhinagar campus.The shaded walkaway will be a relief to community members walking to and from the Academic Area braving the heat of peak summers. The roof of the parking structure and walkaway will consist of Solar PV panels. These panels and the carport together have a capacity of 500KW, which at its peak is approximately half of the campus demand of 1MW. The 90 vehicles carport is perhaps the first such facility in Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar area. The carport is being created to facilitate safe parking space for all.
