IIT Gandhinagar has become the location of Gujarat’s first Gen-Z themed, revamped Post Office, unveiled as part of India Post’s latest push toward modernization. The initiative, aimed at strengthening engagement with Generation Z, aligns with the vision of Hon’ble Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia to transform Post Offices into vibrant, student-centric and technology-enabled spaces that appeal to young citizens. The IITGN Post Office is among 46 Post Offices on educational campuses across the country being revamped under this nationwide program scheduled for completion by 15th December.
The Gen-Z themed revamped IITGN Post Office was inaugurated December 5, 2025 by Chief Postmaster General, Gujarat Circle Shri Ganesh V Sawaleshwarkar, and Director, IIT Gandhinagar Prof Rajat Moona, in the esteemed presence of General Manager (Finance) Dr Rajeev Kandpal and Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav. To mark the occasion, a Special Cover on “IITGN: First Gen Z Themed Post Office of Gujarat’’ and a permanent pictorial cancellation of the IIT Gandhinagar Post Office were also released.

On this occasion, Chief Postmaster General Shri Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar said that the IIT Gandhinagar Post Office has been designed keeping in mind the needs, creativity, modern outlook, and technological expectations of today’s youth. He emphasized that its look and feel fully reflect Gen-Z vibes and culture. The redesign has been carried out with the active participation of students from IIT Gandhinagar, whose ideas have shaped the murals, interior themes, and promotional material—giving the Post Office a distinct youth-driven identity.
Director, IIT Gandhinagar, Prof Rajat Moona appreciated the Department of Posts for this Gen-Z Post Office initiative and expressed hope that a maximum number of students would benefit from the Department’s services and the modern facilities offered. The “Tree of Life of IITGN” mural, created by IIT Gandhinagar students and displayed in the Post Office, highlights the rich avian diversity found on the IITGN campus. The artwork features a flourishing tree adorned with birds that inhabit the institute’s natural surroundings, symbolising IIT Gandhinagar’s deep connection with its vibrant ecosystem.
Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav highlighted that modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, cafeteria, a mini-library, Parcels, Gyan Post, Parcel Packaging Services, Philately, Post Office Savings Scheme, Postal Life Insurance, India Post Payments Bank, Speed Post discounts for Students, QR-based digital payment facilities in Gen Z IIT Post Office makes it more contemporary and accessible. The revamped IIT Gandhinagar Post Office now stands as a symbol of youth empowerment, institutional collaboration, and public-service modernization.
IIT Gandhinagar expressed its appreciation to the students and faculty members who contributed to the conceptualization and design of Gujarat’s first Gen-Z themed, revamped Post Office, and they were felicitated during the event.
The inauguration was attended by Director Postal Services (HQ) Shri Surekh Raghunathan, Sr. Superintendent, Railway Mail Service Shri Piyush Rajak, Senior Superintendent of Gandhinagar Shri Shishir Kumar, Dy. Superintendent Shri M M Prajapati, Shri S K Verma, Assistant Director Shri Varis M Vahora, Shri Ritul Gandhi, Assistant Superintendent Shri H. N.
