There is beauty in the mundane because it is these small, everyday steps that lead you to your goal. Believe it or not, but our BTech Chemical Engineering student Jay Shah has been achieving many milestones with this secret sauce! Hailing from Mumbai, Jay was drawn to an engineering degree at IITGN to bring solutions to the real-world engineering challenges, ranging from fuel cells and electronics to aviation and more, by working in the exciting field of nanomaterials. Fast forward to his BTech 4th year, Jay worked with Prof Raghavan Ranganathan on a project on polymer nanocomposites to better understand how nanoparticle fillers improve polymer properties and help to create a new class of stronger materials.

That is not all; he was also part of the 2nd edition of the much sought after Invent@IITGN programme of the Institute, where he, along with his team member Souritra Garai, invented Sun Protect, a smart sun visor that can improve car driving comfort on sunny days by automatically tracking and blocking the point of brightest glare.

Sharing his thoughts, Jay says, “My IITGN Journey is filled with a lot of positive emotions. It is a place filled with tons of opportunities. Here I learnt a valuable lesson that it is important to bring everyone along because working together will help you achieve your goals faster and more efficiently. Being part of the Amalthea Tech Expo and Jashn teams also helped me develop leadership and communication skills.”

In his free time, Jay enjoys playing keyboard and skating.
