Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has set up a Research & Development (R&D) Cell at IITGN Research Park to undertake R&D for the projects of interest to CPWD. The Cell, aimed at finding efficient solutions to the real problems faced by the construction industry, will work closely with IITGN for cutting-edge research in the housing and urban-development sector.
The CPWD R&D Cell is established as part of a MoU between the two entities aimed at development and verification of new technologies and safer, efficient, long-term solutions to the existing problems of the construction industry. IITGN and CPWD will collaborate on various academic, research, training and capacity-building programmes.
The new R&D Cell at IITGN will enable active dialogue between academia and the industry implementers that will help CPWD become technologically more advanced to address the practical problems faced on field. The Cell will leverage benefit from research infrastructure of IITGN. The R&D undertaken at this Cell will help in prioritising the field problems, devising the most appropriate technological solutions to them and ultimately execute the projects faster to meet the growing housing and urban development demand in the country.
IITGN has always believed in engaging in meaningful research that can create a positive impact on society. This significant partnership between IITGN and CPWD will further foster collaborations between seasoned engineers of CPWD and faculty & students of IITGN to solve the challenges of the construction industry in an effective manner. IIT Gandhinagar Research Park is much more than a physical space. It seeks to foster a powerful interplay between industry and academia, and thereby push the boundaries of innovation and research. Industries can set up their offices at IIT Gandhinagar Research Park to carry out R&D activities. This allows them to be part of a vibrant community and gain access to R&D professionals, students and state-of-the-art R&D infrastructure at IIT Gandhinagar. The Research Park facilitates collaborations between Industries and IIT Gandhinagar faculty. It also enables industry partners to access the laboratories, high-end equipment and other resources at IITGN. Research Park provides advice on collaborative R&D, enables interactions between industry members of Research Park as well as Industries and academia of the region, IP management and licensing etc. Many national and international industry leaders are currently operating their R&D units from IITGN Research Park, including NASSCOM, e-Infochips, WIN Foundation, BBC, GUVNL, among others.
In the current Phase, IIT Gandhinagar Research Park offers fully furnished, ready to move in space at existing buildings of IIT Gandhinagar. The permanent buildings of Research Park are under construction, which will also comprise of common facility center, Incubation Centre, testing and certification labs.
