On Thursday, 07th November 2024, Library at IIT Gandhinagar, in association with Advanced Information Network of Libraries in Gujarat (ADINET), Ahmedabad, organized an hour long talk by Dr. Kannan Moudgalya, PI of National Virtual Library of Indian and Emeritus Fellow, Dept. of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay on “National Virtual Library of India & Empowering Public Libraries”. Library professionals across the two cities, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, from premier institutions joined the talk to listen to and interact with the man behind two brilliant sources of information – National Virtual Library of India and Spoke Tutorials. Dr. Moudgalya began the talk with the inception of National Virtual Library of India, how the portal Indian Cuture.gov came into existence, the framework behind the portal and some of the brilliant holdings it houses. The next part was a discussion on various features of Spoken Tutorials – the free online learning platform for developing IT skills. He concluded with the discussion on how libraries can strengthen their services using the open source softwares available. The session crossed its one hour mark with an engaging Q&A session. The day ended with a visit to the library and a meet-and-greet session among the professionals.
