All-IIT Registrars’ Conclave at IITGN

An all-IIT Registrars’ Conclave begun today at the institute. Inaugurated by Prof Sudhir K Jain, director, the two-day conclave brought together registrars from all IITs at one place. IITGN faculty wins National GeoScience Award 2018 for Applied GeoSciences

Prof Vikrant Jain, faculty in Earth Sciences discipline at the institute, has won the prestigious National Geoscience Award 2018 in the category of Applied Geosciences. The awards, conferred by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, is given annually to geo-scientists/engineers/technologists/academicians to honour their extraordinary achievements and outstanding contributions in the field of fundamental/applied geosciences, mining and allied areas. Professor Jain’s award comes for his significant contributions in the area of river science, a relatively new field of research within applied geosciences. Professor Jain is a geomorphologist/geoscientist working in the area of river science, its applications in stream management, and earth surface processes.  He has worked extensively on the Himalayan rivers and recently started working on the Peninsular rivers too. His current research is aimed at developing the fundamental understanding of variability in river appearance and behaviour through a quantitative framework, and to apply this knowledge for sustainable stream management practices.
