“India’s education system is very strong and deeply rooted in knowledge sharing. We are delighted to begin a meaningful academic relationship with IIT Gandhinagar, and we look forward to new opportunities for students and faculty to learn from each other,” said Dr Nguyễn Thanh Giang, President of UEF during the recent visit of Vietnamese delegation at IITGN.
Dr Giang lauded India’s education system and emphasized IITGN’s global outlook. His remarks highlighted the growing potential for cross-border academic collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two countries.
In a move that highlights the growing academic and innovation ties between India and Vietnam, the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, (IITGN) hosted a high-level delegation from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF) and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) on October 10, 2025.
“IITGN’s growing network of global collaborations reflects our vision of fostering meaningful partnerships that address shared challenges through research and knowledge exchange,” said Prof Amit Prashant, Dean of External Relations, IITGN, while welcoming the delegations during the interaction meet.
During the interaction, faculty and officials from both sides explored opportunities for joint research, student and faculty exchanges, and innovation partnerships. They also discussed cross-cultural learning programmes. The Vietnamese delegation expressed strong interest in IITGN’s multidisciplinary approach, vibrant research ecosystem, and emphasis on innovation-driven education.
“Our institute’s wide-ranging academic approach, combined with a strong emphasis on innovation, inclusivity, and internationalization, forms the core of our vision,” said Prof S P Mehrotra, Dean of Faculty Affairs, IITGN present during the meeting.
The visit formed part of the working trip to Gujarat by H.E. Ambassador of Vietnam to India, Nguyen Thanh Hai, and the Vietnamese delegation from the Embassy of Vietnam and the Vietnam Trade Office in India. The delegation has been actively promoting the upcoming Vietnam Autumn Fair 2025, the largest and most comprehensive international trade exhibition ever organized in Vietnam, while also deepening bilateral partnerships in education, innovation, and technology.
“UEF and HUTECH are among Vietnam’s leading universities, known for their strong focus on global engagement and quality education. Partnering with IIT Gandhinagar will allow us to share knowledge, build collaborative research programs, and nurture a global learning community that connects India and Vietnam.” remarked Dr Majo George, Dean, Faculty of Economics, UEF, while speaking about the two universities. “We are focused on creating opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, and cultural immersion programs,” added Dr George.
The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of the MoU between IIT Gandhinagar and UEF, symbolizing a new chapter of academic cooperation between India and Vietnam. The Vietnamese delegation was later given a guided tour of IITGN’s campus, where they explored the institute’s state-of-the-art research facilities, laboratories, and vibrant student community.
The Vietnamese team’s visit to Gujarat also included meetings with the state’s leadership, industry groups, and educational institutions, as part of broader efforts to promote participation in the Vietnam Autumn Fair 2025 — the country’s largest-ever international trade and investment exhibition.
The initiative supports IITGN’s goal of building global partnerships for learning and innovation and adds to the growing collaboration between India and Vietnam in education, technology, and sustainable growth.
