In a groundbreaking move that promises to reshape the future of financial technology, Gujarat has launched the GIFT International Fintech Institute and the GIFT International Fintech Innovation Hub, setting the stage for a new era of innovation and excellence in the fintech sector. Held on January 17, 2025, in the Grand Mercure Ahmedabad GIFT City, Gandhinagar, the inauguration was done by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr Bhupendra Patel, in the presence of dignitaries like Mr Tapan Ray, Managing Director and Group CEO, GIFT City; Ms Mona K Khandhar, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat; Ms Aarti Mehra, Deputy Country Director, India Resident Mission, ADB; Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IITGN; Prof Pankaj Chandra; Vice Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Management, Ahmedabad University; Prof Rajesh Gupta, Interim Dean, School of Computing, Information and Data Sciences, Distinguished Professor, HDSI Founding Director, among others.
Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), in partnership with a consortium of Ahmedabad University, IIT Gandhinagar, and UC San Diego, has launched the GIFT International Fintech Institute (GIFT IFI) – a space that aims to cultivate training, research and innovation in the fintech ecosystem. Expressing his delight in inaugurating this initiative, the Hon’ble Chief Minister noted: “The launch of the GIFT International Fintech Institute and the GIFT International Fintech Innovation Hub marks a new milestone in the landscape of financial technology in India. I am hopeful that this initiative will delineate Gujarat as an important global destination for innovation in the fintech sector. Under the guidance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the country has witnessed a remarkable fintech revolution over the last one year. Fintech is not a fancy term anymore, but an indispensable part of our everyday lives. Gone are the days when India was known for its cultural diversity only. Today, it is known for its fintech diversity too.”
Under the able guidance of Prof Mithun Radhakrishna, Associate Professor, Chemical Engineering, IITGN, Prof Sameer Gundurao Kulkarni, Assistant Professor, Computer Science & Engineering (Jointly with Electrical Engineering department), IITGN, and Prof Kinshuk Saurabh, Associate Professor, Amrut Mody School of Management, Ahmedabad University, the Institute has designed unique courses like ‘Fintech Foundations’, ‘Technology for Fintech’, ‘AI & ML in Finance’, ‘Treasury and Risk Management’, ‘Fintech Workplace Environment and Professional Communication’, and more.
Noting the significance of this enterprise, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IITGN noted: “We aim to build an institution which will cater to the needs of the finance sector. India has already showcased its prowess in the field of fintech. UPI is just one testament of the same. Our vision is to shape a new era of finance technology and create future leaders in this domain. We are very proud to partner up with Ahmedabad University and University of California San Diego and look forward to generating a positive change in this sector.
