Mihir Jain was in a serious dilemma when he was asked to choose between Physical Education, Economics, and Computer Science (CS) – three elective courses in grade 11. Little did he know that opting for CS and, later on, pursuing his graduation in the same branch would bag him a coveted job offer at Google!
He terms the time spent at IITGN as the best phase of his life and adds that he will be taking home fond memories of friendships and the campus life — from late-night walks to long and thoughtful discussions with friends to unplanned trips. “𝘔𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘫𝘰𝘺𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘱𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘻𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩,” he chimes.
While at IITGN, Mihir attempted a few firsts of his life by participating in several extracurricular activities and expanding his horizons. He expressed, “𝘐𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳, 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘣 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳-𝘐𝘐𝘛 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴’19, 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘐𝘐𝘔 𝘈𝘩𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘥. 𝘐𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳, 𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨.”
During BTech, he did a lot of projects that were simpler versions of complex real-world software systems like Compilers, PyTorch and Facebook. Doing such projects intrigued him as it gave him a fundamental understanding of the core ideas and concepts behind those systems. Quoting Richard Feynman, he said, “𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘐 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥.” Indulging in long discussions/debates with friends, solving math puzzles, teaching concepts/ideas to people, and watching cricket is what Mihir likes to do in his free time.
