More than 30 staff members of the institute are taking lessons for yoga therapy and stress management in order to improve their mental and physical wellbeing. The Staff Development Cell (SDC), which constantly and actively works towards skill and knowledge upgradation as well as all-round development of IITGN staff, has arranged these fortnight-long sessions from July 30 to August 14 to help its staff overcome stress and prevent stress-related ailments.

One of the many challenges the millennials have to deal with is stress. Whether it is work and lifestyle-related or personal, stress can take a heavy toll on an individual’s health in the long run. Considering this, it is essential to learn to handle and manage stress. These sessions, conducted by Dr Shikha Sarogi, include many activities starting from simple breathing exercises to instant relaxation techniques, loosening exercises, yogasanas, pranayama, deep relaxation techniques, stress release techniques, meditation and so on.

The staff members who are attending these sessions, unanimously opine that starting to practice these stress management activities has brought positive changes in their temperament and overall productivity throughout the day. Many of them have also observed improvement in their regular physical complaints like back pain, neck pain, headache, etc.

Rupali S Mohite, junior assistant and one of the participants in the programme shares, “I feel really good and relaxed after joining these stress management sessions. My anger and stress have reduced in the office as well as at home. I have noticed a significant improvement in my back pain too.

Jigar Shah, junior accounts officer, said, “My energy level has increased and it sustains throughout the day. I feel excellent and the whole body gets relaxed after this session. We should continue to practice it regularly.

Sharing his experience and resolve, Junior Superintendent Yogesh Jade said, “Stress-reducing techniques we learnt here are very effective. My concentration level has increased. We often see these kinds of programmes on television but learning it practically here proved to be more beneficial as I could clear all my doubts in person. We will continue to practice it in groups even after these sessions end.
