The central library of the institution had organized a one day workshop on the theme of ‘Implementing Successful Library & Information Teaching Session in Academic Libraries’ on August 18, 2018 (Saturday) at the IITGN campus.

The objective of the workshop was to enable library professionals, particularly academic librarians, to rejuvenate library services and move beyond one-shot classes in order to help the users to lead in their fields of interest. The workshop had three outstanding library & information service professionals as resources persons namely, Ms. Rebecca Raworth, Island Medical Program & Health Sciences Librarian and Ms. Aditi Gupta, Engineering & Science Librarian from the University of Victoria Libraries in British Columbia, Canada, and Dr. J. K. Vijaykumar, Library Director, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia who have extensive and in depth experience in the Information Literacy area. Library professionals from various academic institutions in Gujarat and neighboring states had attended the workshop.

The workshop was provided the participants an insight into the present successful information literacy frameworks, perspective of resource persons’ countries and case studies and best practices followed in their respective universities, discuss pedagogical tools and techniques to actively engage students as well as faculty and explore key strategies for integrating information literacy into subject courses. The resource persons demonstrated new ways of teaching to optimize student engagement. The library staff at IITGN presented the Indian perspective and share their experience.

The Central Library of IITGN supports the main objective of the institute to become a world class institution in Engineering, Sciences and Humanities & Social Sciences. The library has a rich and fast growing collection of books, textbooks, CDs on Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Humanities & Social Sciences. It also provides access to over 12000 e-journals, a dozen databases and e-book collections from reputed publishers and has been offering number of innovative services.

In addition to serving IITGN students, faculty, staff and its own campus community, the IITGN Library has been offering memberships to the external users viz., academicians, researchers and teaching and research institutions.
