Amidst the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation and the consequential guidelines on precautionary measures, IITGN celebrated 74th Independence Day today with minimal physical gathering. The community remotely joined in the live webcast of the programme on the institute’s YouTube channel.

The event began with a flag hoisting ceremony and recitation of the national anthem. Addressing the IITGN community and encouraging them to find opportunities for innovation in this time of crisis, Prof Sudhir Jain, Director, IITGN said, “This is a strange and difficult time in which we have to celebrate Independence Day from our homes. This crisis has compelled us as nations and as institutions, to take actions; some of us may succeed and some may fail too. But in order to progress forward, we should self-evaluate our achievements as well as our failures. We should be proud of what we could do so far, but we should also have aspirations for what more we can do and prepare ourselves for it.

Keeping the spirits high, IITGN students from all over the country unleashed their creative side on a virtual cultural platform provided by the Cultural Council of the Institute. They presented patriotic songs, dance, poetry, and shared paintings, and messages as a tribute to the nation, through video recordings and photographs. Some of these videos and paintings were posted on IITGN Cultural Council’s Instagram page.

“Educational institutions have a huge responsibility in a nation’s development. This crisis has put forth new opportunities, possibilities in front of us; and we should take advantage of those opportunities to minimise our weaknesses and come out stronger than others.” Sudhir K Jain
